v2 Release Notes


I'm happy to announce that v2 of RescueTheHoles is now live!


Key features:

1) 17 new levels with new mechanisms!


New mechanism 1: Second Hole

I've decided that it is time to introduce a second hole character that needs to be rescued from a prison cell. There are two scenarios: 1) the first hole needs to rescue the second hole from a prison cell, and 2) they are both chained to each other.


I've spent a lot of time tweaking and testing the chained concept because it is incredibly difficult to navigate 2 holes, but after some tweaks and practice, it makes the experience more interesting and surgical!


New mechanism 2: Moving Pipes and obstacles

For most of the earlier levels, the pipes have been static, and after a while I felt that players might get bored and even more skilled, so it is time to bring in more complexity and dynamism.


2) Thorns are replaced by Finger looking obstacles called Fangers!

Someone gave me this funny idea to replace static thorns with fingers that poke up and down. I thought it was funny. I might even bring them alive in the future to move around.


3) Switch junctions are replaced by cute Wormholes

The design of the switch junctions (purple striped changing pipes) have been bothering me for a while, and I think its time to replace them with something cuter and I was inspired by Dune Sandworms.


4) VR Background is enhanced

I didn't like the initial white background of the VR setting but I settled for it because I had other initial priorities. Since I received some comments on the VR background, I decided it is time to enhance it. I really like this new one, and in future I will look at more versions.


5) Further reduced damage for Easy and Normal Mode.

There are players who still struggle with easy and normal mode, mainly because the game involves psychomotor skills and steady hands. Increasing the radius of the holes may work for some level but not all levels, so I've also decided to further reduce the frictional damage dps.


6) Holes have eyelids and more active eye movements. This is to bring some basic emotions and life to the characters.

I received this suggestion to bring life to the Hole characters from a player and I really liked it. This turns out to be a far more complex feature, so it will continue to be developed into future versions, but right now I'm happy to have created some active eye interactions with the holes.


7) Reduced volume of friction and impact sound to reduce anxiety shocks.

I wanted to further reduce the feeling of anxiety and annoyance especially when the Holes come into contact with the pipes.


So what's coming in the next version v3.0++?

  1. Customized skins, music and BG settings.

  2. More Holes to rescue and more complex rescue puzzles. So far the levels have been rather straightforward.

  3. It's time to bring in a leaderboard with more players coming in!

  4. Moving enemies, and shooting mechanisms

  5. An Evil level mode.
